Course Overview

Class Experience

Classes generally follow the same weekly format. It starts with a short journal entry, followed by poetry appreciation, root word vocabulary, grammar followed by writing from a source text that serve as the scaffold for the writing process.

The learning goals of the IEW methodology are introduced and practiced at the rate of a single new concept . When mastery of the goal is achieved, the next concept is introduced, and the practice steps are repeated.

Time Commitment

Writing assignments are started during class time. Students can budget around 1 - 1.5 hours outside class time to complete all the assigned activities.

Learning Management System Interaction Time;

Scanning and Uploading of assignments: 10 minutes.

Checking written feedback: varies.

Additional electronic resources - flashcards, etc. varies.

Level and Pace Guidance

Students work through root word vocabulary work sheets weekly. These are published in the classroom.

In some instances, larger writing assignments are spread over more weeks. The focus in this class is on mastery of skillsets while producing quality assignments.

If your student completed this curriculum, weekly sentences are provided to reinforce and practice the learning outcomes for this level.

  Do not buy the cheap product that looks the same because it does not include the contents packet. Also do not just buy the packet and insert it in another binder. The outside cover is a summarized version of the entire methodology and is used extensively during class and for assignment preparation.
