Description
When students learn to write well-constructed paragraphs, they gain immediate advantages that extend far beyond the classroom. By understanding which type of paragraph best suits each assignment, students can maximize their success throughout high school and into their future academic and professional endeavors.
Class Experience
In each session, students learn a different paragraph structure and discover where it works best in their writing. Understanding the etymology and related Latin and Greek roots helps students recognize derivative words and expand their vocabulary. Students analyze examples together and provide anonymous feedback to their peers.
Time Commitment
Budget an additional 1-1.5 hours per week to complete assignments. Individual paragraphs will be combined into essays in subsequent weeks, making it essential for students to complete all paragraphs on schedule.
Level and Pace Guidance
This class benefits writers in grades 8-12, and college students who want to strengthen these skills are also welcome. Students study one paragraph type per week, then combine it with previously learned structures as a practical approach to essay writing.
