Description

Is your student a budding wordsmith who dreams of weaving tales but struggles to put pen to paper, or a writer who inspires? This transformative summer writing class was designed to ignite the spark of imagination and empower all  participants to find their unique voices and brilliance.

This class includes writing, grammar review, and spelling.

This class meets on Thursday for eight consecutive weeks.

Course Highlights

1. Creative Exploration

  • Engage in a series of dynamic and imaginative writing exercises that break down creative barriers.
  • Topics connects students to their own narrative and explore their interests while learning how to think how to succeed academically. Students are prepared with superior tools and techniques for the upcoming semesters.

2. Expressive Storytelling

  • Dive into the art of storytelling with interactive sessions that focus on character development, plot construction, and building compelling narratives.
  • Unleash the power of descriptive language to bring stories to life, captivating readers from the very first sentence.

3. Confidence Building

  • This class foster a supportive and encouraging environment where hesitant writers can build confidence in their abilities.
  • Receive personalized feedback from experienced instructors to celebrate strengths and address areas for improvement, nurturing growth in a positive way.

4. Inspiring Writing Guiding Questions

  • Overcome writer's block with a curated collection of inspiring texts and prompts, designed to stimulate creativity and encourage self-expression.
  • Develop a toolbox of techniques to overcome common writing challenges and build resilience in the face of creative obstacles.
5. Students are assigned reading for discussion during the next class. 

  • The Elephant Whisperer by Lawrence Anthony is a gripping story of a problematic elephant heard that eventually found peace. There are many teaching moments from this book that inspires.

Class Experience

Students work from the prescribed source texts. Techniques of how to evaluate the source, think about the content, extract information, manipulate it, and then write about it forms the foundation of this class. Many additional text are provided in the Source Packet for those who want additional practice.

Every week has a specific assignment that are mostly completed during class time. Individual written feedback is provided on all submitted assignments. A general glass feedback on all assignments are also provided.

Video assistance are available for every concept, and students have unlimited access to their classroom on the Learning Management System as well as asynchronous teacher support.


Time Commitment

Class duration is 85 minutes for eight consecutive weeks.

Writing:

All assignments can be easily finished during the class. Some students who need more time to complete their assignments will spend additional time outside the class to complete their assignments. 

Reading:

This will vary based on the student's competency. 


Level and Pace Guidance

This class is for Gr. 6-8 students and meet on Thursday for eight consecutive weeks.
